Salvage Yard Glasgow, Edinburgh & Scotland

Giving your clearance the Zero Waste treatment.

A big part of what we do, and what makes us different is our commitment to zero waste and our passion to help others.

All items cleared from jobs are sorted, recycled, and repurposed.

Items cleared are brought to our yard, where they are sorted for different use:

  • Larger items (mostly furniture) and collectables, are displayed in The Salvage Yard to be sold with proceeds to charity.

  • Smaller reusable items, such as clothing and household items are taken directly to charity shops.

  • Item that are sadly not good enough for further use and all general waste are disposed of at material recycling facilities that are 100% zero waste to landfill.

The Salvage Yard

The Salvage Yard is located within our yard at Midlothian Innovation Centre.

Regular sales and open days are held to allow the public to visit and salvage through the items and give them a new home.

We have regular upcyclers, collectors and antique traders who visit the sale, as well as the general public maybe looking for a new table or lamp.

The Salvage Yard is run by a team of volunteers, allowing 100% of the proceeds to be donated to charity.

Resales and donating works well for all involved:

Our customers feel good knowing a large percentage of the items we collect are going to a good cause

It gives others the items they need at a low cost, whilst also knowing their money is donated to help charities.

It is also a benefits NuGen, with saving us a little money in recycling fees and giving us pride in what we do.

Community Free Book Libraries

During the many house clearances, NuGen have unearthed a large collection of books. Too many in fact, that our usual charities cannot accommodate them. Rather than these books going into the recycling, we much prefer reuse, and therefor started the community book banks to both give others a good read whilst showing the importance of reuse and recycling.

The Community “Take a Book Leave a Book” Library is a book sharing box, often created using recycled drawers, where individuals can take or share a book. This is a non-profitable project and books are always free. The concept works on community spirit and is ideally self-sustaining with as many books coming in as going out. Books do not need to be returned to the library. Readers can keep books if they love them, pass on to a friend or share them in another Community Free Library.

NuGen are always more than willing to top up the libraries should this be necessary.

As the project really starts to take shape with many of our libraries now in place, we hope to see the project spread out all over Edinburgh and the surrounding areas. If you have an area available to give one of our libraries a home, feel free to contact us anytime.

About

A final note – Sadly, we cannot collect your items for free to sell at the Salvage Yard. NuGen Waste are a commercial business with premises, rates and employees to pay, our salvage yard is an added bonus that we are able to help charities outwith our line of work.
